Jesse Qualliotine, MD, is a board-certified head and neck surgeon who specializes in head and neck cancer and microvascular reconstruction. Dr. Qualliotine cares for patients with cancerous and noncancerous tumors of the mouth, lips, tongue, throat, voice box, nose, sinuses, neck, salivary glands (parotid and submandibular glands), facial and scalp skin, thyroid and parathyroid glands. He has expertise in a range of minimally invasive techniques, including robotic and endoscopic approaches. Additionally, Dr. Qualliotine specializes in reconstructive surgery, including microvascular free tissue transfer (a technique for replacing removed body tissue with tissue from elsewhere on the patient's body).
Dr. Qualliotine believes that a team approach is essential to providing comprehensive care for patients with head and neck cancer and works closely with a large team of experts to ensure that his patients receive the best possible care. Dr. Qualliotine is committed to building trusting relationships with his patients and helping them make informed decisions about their treatment based on the latest evidence. He understands that each patient's needs are unique, and he tailors his care accordingly.
As a surgeon-scientist, Dr. Qualliotine's translational research involves applying engineering-based solutions to problems in oncologic and reconstructive surgery. His academic interests involve the use of novel technologies to monitor tissue viability and optical imaging techniques that allow surgeons to better visualize cancer. As faculty in the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, Dr. Qualliotine trains medical students and residents at UC San Diego School of Medicine.
Dr. Qualliotine completed a fellowship in head and neck oncologic and microvascular reconstructive surgery at UC San Francisco. He completed his residency training in otolaryngology-head and neck surgery at UC San Diego. He earned his medical degree at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in Baltimore and received an undergraduate degree in biomedical engineering from Columbia University in New York City, graduating summa cum laude. Dr. Qualliotine is board certified in otolaryngology, and is a member of the American Head and Neck Society and the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery.
In his free time, Dr. Qualliotine enjoys hiking, music, and spending time with his family.
