Jisha Joshua, MD, is a board-certified pulmonologist and internal medicine doctor who specializes in complex lung diseases. She has expertise in treating interstitial lung disease, including idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), connective tissue disease-associated interstitial lung disease, hypersensitivity pneumonitis and occupational lung disease. She also has a special interest in caring for patients who have bronchiectasis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency, sarcoidosis, asthma and other lung diseases.
Dr. Joshua is the medical director of the Advanced Lung Disease Program at UC San Diego Health. As an assistant professor, she trains medical students, residents and fellows at UC San Diego School of Medicine.
Her research interests include pulmonary fibrosis and pulmonary hypertension related to lung disease. In addition to her participation in ongoing clinical trials, Dr. Joshua's work has appeared in medical and research publications, including Critical Care, Annals of the American Thoracic Society, American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine and the Journal of Bone and Mineral Research.
Having a particular interest in rural health care, Dr. Joshua has provided education and clinical care in India. Before joining UC San Diego Health, she cared for patients at the VA San Diego Healthcare System's hospital and clinics.
Dr. Joshua completed a fellowship in pulmonary medicine and a residency in internal medicine at UC San Diego School of Medicine. She earned her medical degree from Christian Medical College in Ludhiana, India. She is board certified in internal medicine and pulmonary disease.
She is a member of the American Thoracic Society. Dr. Joshua, who grew up in India, also speaks Hindi and Malayalam, and understands Punjabi.
In her free time, she enjoys reading, drawing, dancing to Bollywood music and spending time with her husband and two sons.
