Jarrett E. Santorelli, MD, is board certified in general surgery and surgical critical care. He cares for patients who have experienced traumatic injuries, such as motor vehicle collisions, falls or severe burn injuries. He also provides surgical critical care to patients with acute surgical needs, such as the emergency removal of the appendix or gallbladder, or those coping with surgical complications as well as elective surgical procedures such as hernia repair.
An academic surgeon, Dr. Santorelli's research is focused on clinical outcomes in trauma, burn and general surgery patients. He is an assistant professor in the Department of Surgery and assistant program director of the surgical critical care fellowship and the acute care surgery fellowship at UC San Diego School of Medicine, where he trains medical students, residents, and fellows.
Dr. Santorelli is certified as an instructor in Advanced Trauma Life Support, Advanced Trauma Operative Management, Advanced Surgical Skills for Exposure in Trauma, and Advanced Burn Life Support.
Dr. Santorelli is a member of numerous surgical societies including the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma, the American College of Surgeons, the American Burn Association, the Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma, and the Society of Critical Care Medicine.
He completed his fellowship training in trauma, surgical critical care, acute care surgery, and burn surgery at UC San Diego School of Medicine. Dr. Santorelli completed his residency in general surgery from the University at Buffalo in New York. He earned his medical degree at St. George's University School of Medicine in Grenada, West Indies.
Outside of work, he enjoys skiing, triathlons, and spending time with family.
