About Doran Spencer, MD
Doran B. Spencer, MD, PhD, is an ophthalmologist who specializes in treating uveitis and ocular inflammation. He also specializes in treating diseases of the retina.
Dr. Spencer's approach to treating uveitis prioritizes minimizing damage to the eye from chronic inflammation. He has experience managing uveitis with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory treatments, which often result in long-term remission of disease. When eye inflammation is associated with systemic disease, he may collaborate with other medical specialists to deliver the highest level of care to his patients.
As an assistant professor at UC San Diego School of Medicine, he conducts original research and participates in clinical trials related to uveitis and retinal diseases.
Prior to joining UC San Diego Health in 2017, Dr. Spencer was a fellow at the Massachusetts Eye Research and Surgery Institution and a clinical instructor at Massachusetts Eye and Ear at Harvard Medical School.
He completed fellowship training in vitreoretinal surgery at Shiley Eye Institute at UC San Diego School of Medicine and residency training in ophthalmology and internal medicine at UC Irvine Health. He earned his medical degree and doctoral degree in immunology at Oregon Health and Science University.
He has been honored with many awards, including a research award from the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.
