About Matthew Rickerts, DPT, OCS
Matthew Rickerts, DPT, is a physical therapist and board-certified orthopedic clinical specialist (OCS) who specializes in treating patients with anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and meniscus injuries/surgeries, patellofemoral pain syndrome and rotator cuff pathologies. He has an extensive background in treating runners, triathletes and professional soccer and baseball players.
Rickerts' approach to therapy includes staying up-to-date on current physiology and rehabilitation concepts. His passion is helping his patients stay active and healthy to enjoy their lives to the fullest. Encouraging and assisting patients to reach goals they didn't think were possible is what he finds most rewarding about his career.
Prior to joining UC San Diego Health, Rickerts practiced physical therapy and was a biomechanics specialist. He enjoys blending the use of technology and data with movement science in order to treat a variety of orthopedic conditions.
Rickerts obtained his doctoral degree in physical therapy from the joint program between University of California, San Francisco and San Francisco State University. He is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association – Orthopedics and Sports Chapter and the California Physical Therapy Association.
Outside of work, Rickerts enjoys playing softball, running, cycling, golfing, surfing, skiing, hiking and camping.
