About Gaurav Chenji, MD, MS
Gaurav Chenji, MD, is a board-certified neurologist who sees patients with a a wide array of conditions ranging from general neurology, such as headaches, seizures, and tremors, to more specialized neuromuscular disorders including neuropathies, myopathies, myasthenia gravis, Guillain-Barré syndrome, chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy, myotonic dystrophy, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), and Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease.
In addition, he performs procedures such as electromyography/nerve conduction studies (EMG/NCS) to evaluate problems in the muscle, peripheral nerves, muscle or spinal cord. He also has specialized training in neuromuscular ultrasound, which allows for visualization of certain peripheral nerves. Ultrasound is a dynamic test that evaluates nerves, muscles, and tendons as a limb is moved either actively or passively to help understand the relationship between the nerves and muscles examined and their surrounding structures. It is used alongside EMG/NCS testing to more precisely localize and add specific diagnostic information that electrodiagnostic studies cannot detect.
Dr. Chenji strongly believes in listening to his patients and their families, as the history is so critical in formulating an appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic plan. The field of neurology, and in particular neuromuscular medicine, continues to expand exponentially in regard to therapeutics. It's a very exciting time for providers to be able to offer new therapies to certain conditions for patients that were previously not available.
He completed a fellowship in neuromuscular medicine and a residency in neurology at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland. During his final year of residency, he served as a chief neurology resident. Dr. Chenji completed medical school at Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit. He is passionate about medical education and completed a leadership in medical education course at the Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve University.
He is member of the American Academy of Neurology (AAN), and American Association of Neuromuscular Diseases and Electrodiagnostic Medicine (AANEM).
In his free time, Dr. Chenji loves cooking, woodworking, hiking and camping with his wife. In addition to English, he speaks Hindi and Kannada fluently.
