Shailja C. Shah, MD, is a board-certified gastroenterologist who cares for patients at UC San Diego Health.
As an associate professor in the Division of Gastroenterology, Dr. Shah instructs students, residents and fellows in the Department of Medicine at UC San Diego School of Medicine. Her research is focused on epidemiology and outcomes of inflammation-associated carcinogenesis of the luminal gastrointestinal tract, specifically the stomach and colon/rectum. She is also actively involved in research and public policy initiatives to promote gastric cancer prevention and early detection efforts.
Prior to joining UC San Diego Health, Dr. Shah was a gastroenterologist and assistant professor at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
Dr. Shah completed fellowship training in gastroenterology at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, where she served as chief fellow. She completed residency training at UC San Francisco School of Medicine and earned her medical degree from Drexel University College of Medicine. She also has a master's degree in public health from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine.
She is a member of the American Gastroenterological Association, the American College of Gastroenterology and the American Association for Cancer Research.
