About Ian Glenn, MD
Ian Glenn, MD, is a board-certified cardiothoracic (heart and chest) surgeon with a focus on aortic disease. This includes aneurysm, as well as connective tissue disorders (also called inherited aortic disease) such as Marfan, Loeys-Dietz, and Ehlers-Danlos syndromes).
He provides both open and endovascular treatments and is part of the TAVR team, which provides a less invasive approach to aortic stenosis. Dr. Glenn also treats coronary artery disease with bypass surgery and valvular heart disease with valve repair or replacement. In addition, he is involved in both heart and lung transplants.
While he loves to operate and take care of his patients, he feels one of the most rewarding parts of medicine is getting to meet so many different people and to learn their stories and backgrounds.
He says cardiothoracic surgery is a very team-oriented specialty due to its complexity. He is a strong believer in using this team effort to achieve the best patient outcomes. And he likes to share his passion for surgery with students and trainees.
Dr. Glenn completed fellowship training in cardiothoracic surgery at UC San Diego Health and Cleveland Clinic, where he was also a surgery resident. Dr. Glenn earned his medical degree from Washington University in St. Louis School of Medicine.
He serves on the Green Operating Room committee to reduce the environmental impact of surgery and he is a member of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons.
In his free time, Dr. Glenn enjoys running, skiing and rock climbing, as well as playing with his children and collecting crazy socks.
