About Scott Mullaney, MD
Scott Mullaney, MD, is a board-certified nephrologist who cares for patients with acute kidney injury, chronic kidney disease and end-stage renal disease with a particular interest in peritoneal dialysis. He is the clinical service chief for the Nephrology Division at UC San Diego Health.
As a professor in the Department of Medicine, Dr. Mullaney focuses on the training and education of the next generations of physicians. He is the training program director for the Nephrology Fellowship Program and an associate training program director of the Internal Medicine Residency Program at UC San Diego School of Medicine.
Dr. Mullaney enjoys teaching both at the bedside and in the lecture hall. He stresses the importance of understanding disease physiology while empowering patients to be active participants in their health care. He has also received several awards from the graduating residents for his teaching abilities. Dr. Mullaney states, "Through teaching young physicians, we impact the care of tens of thousands of patients, not just those I see but all those they will see in their careers."
He completed a fellowship in nephrology at UC San Diego School of Medicine and a residency in internal medicine at the University of Alabama at Birminham School of Medicine. He earned his medical degree from the University of Maryland Medical School. He joined the faculty at UC San Diego in 1999 and is board certified in internal medicine and nephrology.
Dr. Mullaney lives in San Diego with his wife and son. When not at work, he can be found riding his bicycle or golfing with his son. He is an avid baseball and soccer fan as well.
