About Christine James, MD, MS
Christine James, MD, is an allergist/immunologist with expertise in asthma, chronic rhinitis, food and drug allergy, venom hypersensitivity, quality improvement, and climate change and allergic disease.
Dr. James has a strong interest in the relationship between climate change and health and is a team action leader for transportation and building electrification for Climate Health Now, a California-based healthcare professional organization that recognizes climate change as a public health emergency. She is also a member of the Public Health Advisory Council of Climate Action Campaign, a San Diego-based climate change advocacy organization. She has written multiple op-eds, conducted webinar presentations, and given public testimony on the health effects of climate change. Dr. James is a trained Climate Reality Corps leader and recently received a Yale School of Public Health Climate Change and Health certificate.
Prior to joining UC San Diego Health, she practiced clinically at the Institute for Asthma and Allergy in Washington D.C., where she also took part in multiple clinical research trials for potential new therapies in the field of allergy and immunology.
Dr. James completed a fellowship in allergy and immunology at the University of Cincinnati and Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center where she received a National Institutes of Health-sponsored research training grant and also completed a master's degree in clinical and translational research. She completed internal medicine training at University Hospitals Case Western Reserve University and her medical degree from University of Louisville School of Medicine in Ky.
She is a member of the American College of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology, the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology, and the American Thoracic Society.
Outside of work, Dr. James enjoys reading, cooking and Indian classical dance.
