Ian Grover, MD, is a board-certified emergency medicine physician who specializes in undersea and hyperbaric medicine. His expertise includes preventing and treating disease and injury in divers and other individuals working in altered atmospheric conditions. Within UC San Diego Health's Hyperbaric Medicine and Wound Care Program, Dr. Grover assesses a person's fitness to dive, treats diving accidents and uses hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) to treat conditions such as decompression illness, carbon monoxide poisoning, gas gangrene, non-healing wounds and tissue damage from radiation, burns or infection.
As a professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine, Dr. Grover instructs medical students, residents and fellows at UC San Diego School of Medicine. His research interests include the treatment of headaches in the emergency department and hyperbaric oxygen therapy for preconditioning.
Dr. Grover completed a fellowship in hyperbaric medicine at UC San Diego School of Medicine and a residency in emergency medicine at Wake Forest School of Medicine, Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C. Prior to his residency, Dr. Grover served as a flight surgeon in the U.S. Navy for three years. He earned his medical degree from University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine. Dr. Grover is board certified in emergency medicine and undersea and hyperbaric medicine.
Outside of work, Dr. Grover enjoys spending time with his family, playing basketball and softball, and scuba diving.
