About Shang I Brian Jiang, MD

S. Brian Jiang, MD, is a board-certified dermatologist and director of dermatologic and Mohs micrographic surgery at UC San Diego Health. Mohs surgery, a type of precise surgical technique, is used to remove basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma, the two most common skin cancers.

In addition to Mohs surgery, Dr. Jiang's expertise includes reconstructive surgery and cosmetic dermatology and laser procedures.

As a professor in the Department of Dermatology, Dr. Jiang educates students, residents and fellows. He developed the Micrographic Surgery and Dermatologic Oncology Fellowship at UC San Diego School of Medicine, which he currently directs.

Dr. Jiang frequently lectures at both national and international conferences. He has co-authored many articles and is the editor-in-chief of Journal of Clinical and Investigative Dermatology.

Prior to joining UC San Diego Health, Dr. Jiang was an instructor in the Department of Dermatology at Harvard Medical School. He also served as the medical director of the Beth Israel Deaconess Dermatology and Laser Center, where he performed and taught cosmetic dermatology procedures such as botulinum toxin injections, filler injections, sclerotherapy, superficial chemical peels; and laser procedures such as vascular laser treatment, pigmented, hair removal, and ablative and non-ablative resurfacing. He was also the associate director of the Dermatologic Surgery Unit at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and co-directed the Mohs Micrographic Surgery Fellowship Training Program.

Dr. Jiang completed a fellowship in dermatologic and Mohs micrographic surgery at New York University School of Medicine, NYU Langone Medical Center, where he also completed a residency in dermatology. During his final year of residency, Dr. Jiang was selected for his clinical and leadership abilities to serve as chief resident. Dr. Jiang earned his medical degree from NYU School of Medicine. He is board certified in dermatology.
