About Matthew Bender, MD

Matthew Bender, MD, is a board-certified gastroenterologist who treats individuals with conditions of the esophagus, stomach, small intestine, colon, pancreas and liver. He sees a wide variety of patients with focuses on colon cancer screening and prevention, celiac disease, microscopic colitis and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). In addition to in-person appointments, Dr. Bender also offers telemedicine appointments to accommodate patients who live further away or have mobility restrictions.

Dr. Bender enjoys the relationships formed between him and his patients. When medicine is focused around personalizing care around each patient's unique life circumstances, background and goals, it results in outcomes far better than otherwise possible.

He completed fellowship training in gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition at The Ohio State University College of Medicine in Columbus. Dr. Bender completed residency training in internal medicine at University of Virginia School of Medicine in Charlottesville and earned his medical degree from University of Kentucky College of Medicine in Lexington. He is board certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology.

He is a member of several professional societies including the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society, American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, the American College of Gastroenterology and the American Gastroenterology Association.

In his free time, he enjoys heading to the mountains to hike, climb, ski or camp.
