
About Brian Clay, MD
Brian Clay, MD, is a board-certified internal medicine physician who specializes in caring for hospitalized patients. As a hospitalist, Dr. Clay is assigned to patients at the time of admission and provides care only during their hospital stay. He does not see patients at outpatient clinics and is not available for appointments. Upon a patient's discharge, Dr. Clay communicates with their regular physician to ensure quality care.
Dr. Clay was named the chief medical information officer for UC San Diego Health in 2012. He also currently serves as one of the associate program directors for the Internal Medicine Residency Program and is a member of the IT Leadership and Education Committee for the Society of Hospital Medicine.
As a professor in the Department of Medicine, he instructs medical students, residents, and fellows at UC San Diego School of Medicine.
He completed an internal medicine residency at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in Nashville, Tenn. Dr. Clay earned his medical degree from UC San Diego School of Medicine. He is board certified in internal medicine with a focused practice in hospital medicine.
