Teresa Helsten, MD, is a board-certified oncologist who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer. Dr. Helsten provides comprehensive care for women with breast cancer and offers patients the opportunity to enroll in cooperative group trials as well as industry-sponsored and investigator-initiated clinical trials.
Dr. Helsten provides state-of-the-art endocrine (hormonal) therapy, chemotherapy and targeted therapies. These therapies are used to reduce the risk of cancer spreading or coming back for patients with cancer confined to the breast and lymph nodes; and to improve quality of life for patients whose cancers have already spread to other parts of their bodies (metastasized).
Dr. Helsten runs several clinical trials of novel therapies for breast cancer. Her research focuses on identifying genetic changes in cancer that can be treated with these novel therapies.
She completed her oncology fellowship at UC San Diego Medical Center and residency at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. She her medical degree from University of California, Davis. Dr. Helsten is board certified in hematology and medical oncology.
