Daniel E. Lee, MD, PhD, is a board-certified anesthesiologist and pediatrician who provides critical care services and anesthesia for children admitted to UC San Diego Health's Regional Burn Center, the only burn center in San Diego and Imperial Counties. He also provides anesthesia for patients of all ages at UC San Diego Health hospitals in Hillcrest and La Jolla.
As a professor in the Departments of Anesthesiology and Pediatrics, Dr. Lee instructs medical students, residents and fellows at UC San Diego School of Medicine. His clinical and research areas of interest include pediatric anesthesiology; pediatric burn critical care; trauma and burn anesthesiology; global health and public policy; and anesthesia education research.
Dr. Lee completed fellowship training in pediatric intensive care and pediatric anesthesia at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London, one of the major pediatric referral centers for the United Kingdom. He completed a residency in pediatrics followed by a residency in anesthesiology at UC San Diego School of Medicine. Dr. Lee earned his medical degree at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, where he also earned a PhD in genetics and development. He is board-certified in anesthesiology, pediatric anesthesiology and general pediatrics.
Dr. Lee serves as an oral board examiner for the American Board of Anesthesiology. He has also participated extensively in humanitarian medical care both in the United States and abroad.
