Sunil J. Advani, MD, is a board-certified radiation oncologist who treats a diversity of malignancies, focusing on prostate, lung and melanoma/skin cancers.
He is skilled in a variety of advanced radiation oncology techniques, including image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT) and intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) to treat prostate cancer; Rapid Arc radiotherapy and stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) for lung cancer. He is also experienced with Xoft electronic brachytherapy for skin cancers.
His research examines the therapeutic value of combining gene therapy with radiation therapy. He is also interested in developing novel radiosensitizers to improve the efficacy of radiotherapy and leads clinical trials to test novel radiotherapy approaches.
Dr. Advani completed residency training in radiation oncology at The University of Chicago's Pritzker School of Medicine and was named chief resident during this time. He earned his medical degree and was also a research fellow in viral oncology at the Pritzker School of Medicine. He is board certified in radiation oncology.
Dr. Advani is a member of the American Society for Radiation Oncology, the American Association for Cancer Research and the Radiation Research Society.
Outside of work, he enjoys hiking with his wife and two children, exploring new restaurants, especially ones that are family-friendly.
