About H. Irene Su, MD

H. Irene Su, MD, MSCE, is a reproductive endocrinologist and reproductive epidemiologist dedicated to improving the reproductive health for patients throughout their cancer journey. Dr. Su's expertise includes treating infertility, reproductive aging and fertility preservation. She directs the Reproductive Survivorship program at UC San Diego Health, which offers oncofertility (i.e. a subfield that bridges oncology and reproductive research to explore and expand reproductive future options), for young people facing cancer, and other medical illnesses. She has extensive experience with providing compassionate care for gender diverse patients.

Dr. Su also provides fertility preservation, in vitro fertilization (IVF) and a range of infertility treatment options at Reproductive Partners Fertility Center - San Diego.

As a professor in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Sciences, she is involved in training medical students, residents and fellows at UC San Diego School of Medicine. Dr. Su and her team have conducted extensive research and generated over 80 peer-reviewed publications on reproductive epidemiology, oncofertility, cancer survivorship, fertility preservation and ovarian aging. Their work has been supported by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the American Cancer Society and the California Breast Cancer Research Program. Dr. Su has also presented many lectures on oncofertility care and research.

Prior to joining UC San Diego Health, Dr. Su was an instructor at Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at University of Pennsylvania.

She completed a fellowship in reproductive endocrinology and infertility, and a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine, where she also obtained a Master of Science in clinical epidemiology (MSCE). Dr. Su earned her medical degree from Albert Einstein College of Medicine in Bronx, N.Y. She is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology, and reproductive endocrinology and infertility.

Dr. Su enjoys finding good eats, reading novels, and spending time with her family. She is fluent in Mandarin.
