About Lauren Kerr, MS, CCC-SLP
Lauren Kerr, MS, CCC-SLP, is a certified speech-language pathologist who evaluates and treats adult patients with speech, language, cognitive communication, and swallowing disorders at the Koman Family Outpatient Pavilion. She provides outpatient evaluations and treatments for adults with a variety of disorders, including aphasia, dysphagia, movement disorders, neurological disorders, cognitive communication disorders, and traumatic brain injuries.
Kerr aims to take a functional approach to speech therapy, prioritizing her patients' interests, goals, and cultures. She loves getting to know her patients, as well as seeing them progress and gain confidence in their abilities to communicate, eat safely, and become more independent.
Prior to joining UC San Diego Health, Kerr was a speech-language pathologist at Bon Secours Mercy Health in Newport News, Va. She has worked as a speech-language pathologist in a variety of hospital settings, including inpatient rehabilitation, outpatient and acute care.
Kerr earned her master's degree in speech-language pathology from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Va. and her bachelor's degree in child development from Cal Poly Humboldt in Arcata, Calif.
She holds a Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). Kerr is certified by SPEAK OUT!® and Lee Silverman Voice Treatment (LSVT) LOUD® speech therapy programs, which specialize in strengthening and preserving speech and voice for people with Parkinson's disease and related disorders. She is also trained in modified barium swallow studies (MBSS).
In her free time, Kerr enjoys traveling, cooking, spending time outdoors, practicing Brazilian jiu jitsu, dancing, and playing with her dog, Oliver, and cat, Moonpie.
