About David L. Wyles, MD
David L. Wyles, MD, is an infectious disease specialist and hepatitis C (HCV) infection and treatment expert. Infectious disease specialists care for patients with infections or diseases caused by viruses, bacteria, fungi and parasites. These include hepatitis viruses, tuberculosis, influenza, and HIV/AIDS, in addition to other infections of the sinuses, heart, brain, lungs, gastrointestinal system, urinary tract, pelvic organs and bones.
Dr. Wyles' clinical work includes caring for people co-infected with HIV and hepatitis C virus. He is involved in several trials using novel therapies for the treatment of chronic HCV. His research interests include laboratory evaluation of new antiviral therapies for HCV, drug resistance to HCV antivirals, and HCV viral fitness. By studying viral fitness, an organism's ability to adapt and reproduce in a defined environment, researchers aim to improve the development of antiviral drugs. The goal of antiviral therapy is to suppress replication of the virus.
Dr. Wyles earned his medical degree from Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. He completed his internal medicine residency and infectious disease fellowship at the University of Colorado.
Dr. Wyles is a member of the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases/Infectious Disease Society of America's (AASLD/IDSA) treatment guidelines panel. He is board-certified in internal medicine.
