About Jeanne Lee, MD, FACS

Jeanne Lee, MD, is a board-certified surgeon who focuses her care on individuals who have experienced traumatic injury, such as a motor vehicle collision or severe burn injury. As director of the Burn Center at UC San Diego Health, Dr. Lee provides clinical and administrative leadership for the burn program, including education, research, quality improvement, community outreach, and policies and procedures specifying all aspects of care for burn patients.

As a professor in the Department of Surgery, Dr. Lee is involved in teaching fellows, residents and medical students who rotate on the Trauma, Surgical Critical Care, Acute Care Surgery, and Burn Surgery Services. Her research interests include improving outcomes for trauma patients through technology and efficient exchange of medical information during ambulance or air transport to the trauma center.

Dr. Lee is a certified instructor for the Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) course, Disaster Management and Emergency Preparedness (DMEP) course, the Advanced Trauma Operative Management course (ATOM) and the Advanced Surgical Skills for Exposure in Trauma (ASSET) course. These courses are sponsored by the American College of Surgeons. She is also the clinical coordinator and certified instructor for the Advanced Burn Life Support (ABLS) course offered annually for residents and community physicians who wish to become more proficient in these areas.

Dr. Lee completed a fellowship in trauma and surgical critical care at UC San Diego School of Medicine and a residency in general surgery at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. She earned her medical degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. Dr. Lee is board certified in general surgery and surgical critical care.

She is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) and resident of the San Diego Chapter of the American College of Surgeons where she leads local efforts in advocacy, education and outreach on behalf of surgeons throughout the county. Dr. Lee is also a member of several professional organizations including the American College of Surgeons, American Burn Association, American Association for the Surgery of Trauma, and the Society of Critical Care Medicine.
