His main research interest focuses on the interactions between mental health care delivery, financial aspects and tariff systems of mental healthcare, as well as aggression, coercion and complex traumatization in people with severe mental illness and minority populations (mainly racial minorities, migrants and LGBTQIA+ populations).

Another major interest of his research is the impact of minority status on mental health, which included an analysis of the data from the U.S. National Health Survey to see the impact of the minority status of belonging to the African American population on diverse health outcomes.

Dr. Schneeberger currently is a collaborator for the Collaborative Outcomes Study on Health and Functioning during Infection Times (COH-FIT). This is a large international survey project for the entire population of countries affected by the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19).

Prior to joining UC San Diego Health, he was the clinical director and member of the executive board at Psychiatric Services Grisons, chief psychiatrist at a private clinic, and medical director for the Swiss Military and Civil Protection Care Team Grischun in Switzerland.

Dr. Schneeberger completed his residency training in psychiatry at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York and earned his medical degree from University of Basel Medical School in Switzerland. He is board certified in psychiatry in the U.S. and Switzerland.
