About Leah D. Kern, MD, MPH
Leah D. Kern, MD, MPH, is a board-certified pediatrician who provides primary care for children of all ages. She leads the Pediatric Travel Medicine program, which provides medical advice and vaccinations for children traveling internationally. She also works as a pediatrician for the UCSD Mother, Child and Adolescent HIV Program.
Before joining UC San Diego Health, Dr. Kern lived and worked in West Africa for four years. She also worked for the UC San Diego Ethiopia Project to enhance the prevention, care, and treatment of pregnant women and children with HIV/AIDS in Ethiopia.
At UCSD, Dr. Kern focuses on primary care pediatrics, pediatric travel medicine, care for children with HIV, teaching medical students and pediatric residents, and implementing quality improvement projects in the general pediatrics clinics.
She completed her residency at Children's National Medical Center in Washington, D.C. Dr. Kern earned her medical degree from Harvard Medical School.
