Cara Pozun, MA, is a licensed marriage and family therapist (LMFT) who cares for patients as part of the Women's Reproductive Mental Health Program at UC San Diego Health, which helps women manage and recover from anxiety, depression, or other emotional concerns during infertility, pregnancy, or the postpartum period.
Pozun uses a trauma-informed, person-centered, collaborative approach to treatment. She has experience delivering a variety of evidence-based treatments such as prolonged exposure and cognitive processing therapy for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), cognitive behavior therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, and brief solution-focused therapy.
She has experience with individuals, couples, and families in multiple clinical settings, such as integrated primary care, outpatient addiction medicine and intensive outpatient programs.
Prior to joining UC San Diego Health, she was a marriage and family therapist at the VA San Diego Healthcare System, serving as both a clinician and researcher.
Pozun earned her master's degree in marital and family therapy from the University of San Diego and an advanced specialization in medical family therapy (MedFT) from St. Mary's Medical Center Family Residency Program and the University of Colorado. She has collaborated on several research projects investigating suicide prevention, shared decision-making and recovery-oriented care.
Outside of work, she enjoys running and outdoor activities, reading, spending time with family and friends, meditation and enjoying all San Diego has to offer.
