
About Daniel Bouland, MD, FACP
Daniel Bouland, MD, is a board-certified internal medicine physician who specializes in caring for hospitalized patients. As a hospitalist, Dr. Bouland is assigned to patients at the time of admission and provides care only during their hospital stay. He does not see patients at outpatient clinics and is not available for appointments. Upon a patient's discharge, Dr. Bouland communicates with their regular physician to ensure quality care.
Dr. Bouland serves as chief of Hospital Medicine, vice chair for clinical operations in the Department of Medicine and vice chair for Clinical Quality Improvement and Patient Experience. He also works as a director of evaluations at UC San Diego Health Altman Clinical and Translational Research Institute.
As a professor in the Department of Medicine, Dr. Bouland instructs medical students, residents and fellows at UC San Diego School of Medicine.
Before joining UC San Diego Health, Dr. Bouland served as chief of the Department of Medicine at Riverside County Regional Medical Center. At Loma Linda University, he served as the vice chair of the Department of Medicine and the co-director of Internal Medicine Residency Program. In addition, Dr. Bouland was the acting medical director for California Medical Review Inc. and the CEO/President of the Mission Medical Group of the Inland Empire. While with VA Pacific Islands Health Care System in Honolulu, Dr. Bouland served first as the associate chief of staff for primary care and then as director of the Office of Referral and Management Services, where he provided oversight for all clinical care in the Pacific domain.
Dr. Bouland completed an internal medicine residency at Loma Linda University School of Medicine, where he earned his medical degree. He holds a master's degree in healthcare management from Harvard School of Public Health. Dr. Bouland is board certified in internal medicine.
He is a fellow of the American College of Physicians.
Dr. Bouland has lectured and provided medical care in countries such as Saudi Arabia, Brunei, Singapore, the Philippines, Guam, and Palau. He established a western-style international medicine residency training program in Hangzhou, China, which continues in operation.
