About Salieha Zaheer, MD, FAAFP
Salieha Zaheer, MD, is a board-certified family medicine physician. She provides primary care for patients of all ages and in all stages of their life, including preventive care, women's healthcare, pediatric care, and treatment of acute and chronic diseases. Dr. Zaheer finds it rewarding to meet patients and follow them through their life transitions. She enjoys developing a trusted bond with her patients – partnering and listening with them and coming up with the best plan for them.
Prior to joining UC San Diego Health, Dr. Zaheer cared for patients at Ascension Providence Rochester Hospital and Crittenton Hospital Medical Center in Rochester, Mich. Her experience as a hospitalist, especially during the pandemic while actively managing COVID-19 patients, has given her a deeper understanding of the importance of taking care of her patients as a whole - in body, mind and spirit. It also helped her to provide care focusing on preventative measures and outpatient management to reduce hospitalization and readmission.
Dr. Zaheer was also previously an assistant professor at Wayne State University School of Medicine where she taught and supervised family medicine residents and medical students. Her research interests include psychological health in geriatric patients and surgical cases in primary care. Her work has been published in the Journal of Surgical Case Reports.
She completed her residency in family medicine at Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit and earned her medical degree from Fatima Jinnah Medical College in Lahore, Pakistan. She is board certified in family medicine. Dr. Zaheer is a fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians. She is also a member of the American Medical Association and the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine.
In her free time, Dr. Zaheer enjoys traveling, listening to music, hiking, and playing tennis and badminton with her two daughters who also love racket sports. She is a fan of the Michigan Wolverines and enjoys following their big games. Being new to San Diego, she is looking forward to learning how to surf and scuba dive. Spending time with her family and exploring outside interests is rejuvenating and allows her to come back to work and fully engage with her patients.
