Piper Sandel, MD, MPH, is a board-certified pediatrician who provides primary care for infants, children and young adults up to age 21. As a certified lactation consultant, she enjoys helping mothers meet their breastfeeding goals.
Before joining UC San Diego Health, Dr. Sandel was the associate medical director of the Kids Mobile Medical Clinic at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, D.C., and an assistant professor of pediatrics at the university, teaching newborn nursery and outpatient community pediatrics. She also worked as an assistant professor of pediatrics at Loma Linda University Children's Hospital in Loma Linda, Calif., where she helped standardize and improve pediatric care in the San Bernardino County Department of Public Health clinics.
Dr. Sandel completed a fellowship in community pediatrics and child health advocacy and her residency training in pediatrics at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital. She earned a medical degree from Michigan State University College of Human Medicine in East Lansing, Mich., and a Master's of Public Health degree in maternal and child health from George Washington University's Milken Institute School of Public Health. She also holds a Master of Arts degree in medical science from Loyola University Chicago in Chicago. She is board certified in pediatrics.
She is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine.
In her free time, she enjoys reading, travel, yoga, biking and exploring the San Diego region.
