Ali Farkhondehpour, MD

Ali Farkhondehpour, MD, is a board-certified internal medicine physician who specializes in caring for hospitalized patients. As a hospitalist, Dr. Farkhondehpour is assigned to patients at the time of admission and provides care only during their hospital stay. He does not see patients at outpatient clinics and is not available for appointments. Upon a patient's hospital discharge, Dr. Farkhondehpour communicates with their regular physician to ensure quality care.

As an academic hospitalist, Dr. Farkhondehpour has a special interest in medical education. He serves as the co-site director for the third-year medical student internal medicine rotation at UC San Diego Health - Hillcrest and is one of the faculty for the first- and second-year medical student point-of-care ultrasound course. He works closely with the residency program and serves as associate program director for the internal medicine residency program.

Dr. Farkhondehpour is the director of the UC San Diego Hospital Medicine Pathway for the internal medicine residency program. The pathway is a new educational curriculum that is designed to enhance the internal medicine residency experience with additional training for residents interested in a career in hospital medicine. Dr. Farkhondehpour is proud to be a part of UC San Diego Health hospital medicine and have the privilege of working with physicians who provide outstanding care to their patients and who are invested in medical education.

Dr. Farkhondehpour completed his residency and internship in internal medicine at UC San Diego. He served as a chief medical resident prior to joining the Division of Hospital Medicine at UC San Diego in 2017. Dr. Farkhondehpour earned his medical degree at Oregon Health and Science University and his bachelor's degrees in human biology and psychology at UC San Diego. He is board certified in internal medicine and a member of the Society of Hospital Medicine, American College of Physicians and Alliance for Academic Internal Medicine.
