Mary Tanaka, MD, FAAP

Mary Tanaka, MD, is a board-certified pediatrician providing care through the Children's Primary Care Medical Group. She is a member of UC San Diego Health Physician Network.

UC San Diego Health Physician Network is an alliance of health care providers based in San Diego, Riverside and Imperial counties. Members of the network collaborate on developing shared systems, infrastructure and quality initiatives to provide high-value health care in the region.

As a pediatrician, Dr. Tanaka provides primary care for infants, children and young adults. She has always loved working with children and grew up admiring the relationships her father, a pediatrician, had with his patients and their families. When she decided to go to medical school, pediatrics seemed like a natural choice. One of the best things about being a pediatrician for Dr. Tanaka is the ability to be a part of a child's journey with their family. She truly enjoys being able to support children and their families, as well as helping them navigate the years from infancy to young adulthood.

Dr. Tanaka completed her residency at UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine and earned her medical degree at Georgetown University School of Medicine. She is board certified in pediatrics and a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics (FAAP).

Outside of work, Dr. Tanaka enjoys spending time with her husband and two sons. They love being outdoors and exploring, whether it's finding shells at the beach, visiting a farmers' market or riding bikes. She also loves to cook and her kids like picking out a new fruit or vegetable at the farmers' market for her to try new recipes.
