About Katie Hiner, MSN, CNM, APRN

Katie Hiner, MSN, is a certified nurse-midwife (CNM) who provides family-centered maternity care, along with well-woman care, family planning and other services. She delivers babies in our holistic, in-hospital birth center or in the traditional labor and delivery environment, depending on the desires and needs of her patients.

Katie believes that pregnancy, labor and childbirth are pivotal experiences in the lives of women and their families and that she has a role to play in helping to optimize maternal and newborn outcomes, as well as providing an empowered and dignified experience along the way. She believes that all recipients of care, regardless of background, education or opportunity should have access to exceptional and compassionate care and be encouraged to act as agents in their own health care experience in an effort to support personal values and preferences. Katie feels honored to work with such a committed and thoughtful interdisciplinary team who appreciates the power of collaborative care in supporting our patients' experiences and enhancing outcomes.

Prior to joining UC San Diego Health in 2021, she was a certified nurse-midwife at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. She was the nursing clinical coordinator at the Student-Run Free Clinic of Cleveland, helping to foster collaborative, interdisciplinary relationships between medical, nursing and social work students in a direct patient care environment. She also worked in education, both as an adjunct faculty member teaching in-patient obstetric care to nursing students, and as an educator providing reproductive health education to adolescents at the Cuyahoga County Juvenile Detention Center.

Katie earned her bachelor's degree in human biology at UC San Diego and her master's degree in nursing from Case Western Reserve University.
