About Theodora Nelson, MD
Theodora Nelson, MD, is a board-certified pediatrician who specializes in developmental and behavioral issues in children from birth to young adulthood. Her practice encompasses diagnosis, care and treatment of children with neurodevelopmental disorders such as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), autism spectrum disorders, learning disorders, anxiety, depression, difficult behaviors and developmental delays.
Dr. Nelson believes in preventive care, which involves helping and teaching parents to develop strategies that address their children's behaviors at early ages. She enjoys the connection that she builds with patients and families. Dr. Nelson also has a special interest in the interface between schools and healthcare.
Prior to joining UC San Diego Health, Dr. Nelson worked as a general pediatrician in a variety of healthcare settings throughout the United States. However, the majority of her time has been spent practicing in her hometown of San Diego.
She completed fellowship training in developmental-behavioral pediatrics at UC San Diego School of Medicine, where she also completed her residency training in pediatrics. Dr. Nelson earned her medical degree from University of Vermont School of Medicine in Burlington. She is board certified in pediatrics and developmental-behavioral pediatrics.
Dr. Nelson is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Society of Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics.
Outside of work, she enjoys swimming, pickleball, reading, biking and travel.
