Aman Khurana, MD, is a board-certified abdominal radiologist who specializes in contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) of abdominal and pelvic organs including liver, kidneys, uterus, ovaries and placenta accreta spectrum MRI.
As an associate professor in the Department of Radiology, Dr. Khurana is involved in training medical students, residents and fellows at UC San Diego School of Medicine. His research interests include contrast-enhanced ultrasound, placenta accreta spectrum MRI, T-cell labeling and tracking, and microlearning and his work has been published in peer-reviewed journals such as Radiology, Radiographics, Ultrasound Quarterly, Nature Scientific Reports, Cells, and Theranostics. He has published 31 peer-reviewed articles, 12 peer-reviewed case reports and 3 book chapters in his academic career. He has also served as a reviewer for multiple journals including Radiology, American Journal of Radiology, Abdominal Radiology, RSNA Case Collection, PLOS One and Cell Transplantation.
Prior to joining UC San Diego Health, he was a radiologist and assistant professor at University of Kentucky College of Medicine where he co-led a contrast-enhanced ultrasound program in their Department of Radiology, Abdominal Imaging Division. He is a successful inventor of a US patent titled Cell sorting microbeads as novel contrast agent for magnetic resonance imaging culminating in the launch of his biotechnology startup, Immunomag, in collaboration with biomedical engineers, immunologists and transplant surgeons at University of Kentucky.
Dr. Khurana completed a fellowship in body imaging at Stanford University School of Medicine. He completed a residency in radiology at UC San Diego School of Medicine and earned his medical degree from University College of Medical Sciences in New Delhi, India. His additional medical training includes a postdoctoral fellowship in molecular imaging at Stanford University prior to his residency training.
He is a member of the Radiological Society of North America, Society of Abdominal Radiology, the American Roentgen Ray Society and the American Board of Radiology.
Outside of work, Dr. Khurana enjoys being active outdoors including road biking, hiking, surfing, snorkeling, skiing as well as traveling and taking road trips with his family.
