About Joyce Lin, MMS, PA-C
Joyce Lin, MMS, is a certified physician assistant (PA-C) who specializes in breast cancer care at the Comprehensive Breast Health Center at UC San Diego Health. She supports surgical oncology physicians in the clinic and operating room, helping to ensure that surgeries run safely and smoothly. Joyce is responsible for pre-operative care, including surgical planning and assisting with surgery cases, as well as post-operative evaluation and follow-up management. She is also involved with high-risk breast cancer screenings and surveillance, and the management of benign breast disease.
Joyce takes a multidisciplinary approach to breast cancer care and collaborates with various medical specialties, such as genetics, radiology, medical oncology, and radiation oncology, to formulate the best treatment plan for patients. She effectively communicates to help patients make informed decisions in their health care. Joyce sees each patient as a unique individual with individualized needs. She finds it rewarding to improve patient outcomes and optimize their quality of life.
In addition to surgical oncology, Joyce works with medical oncology physicians in managing therapies for cancer patients. These include chemotherapy, endocrine (hormonal) therapy, and targeted therapy. She serves as a sub-investigator for clinical trials, like the I-SPY-2 trial for neoadjuvant treatment of locally advanced breast cancer.
Joyce earned her master's degree in medical science as part of the Physician Assistant Studies program from Chapman University in Orange, Calif. She obtained her bachelor's degree in molecular and cell biology from UC Berkeley. Joyce is board-certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. She is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants, California Academy of Physician Assistants and San Diego Society of Physician Assistants, as well as an affiliate member of the American Society of Breast Surgeons.
