About Lindsey Burnett, MD, PhD
Lindsey Burnett, PhD, MD, is a urogynecologist who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of pelvic floor disorders including pelvic organ prolapse and incontinence.
Dr. Burnett's focus is on patient education and interaction. She appreciates discussion with her patients regarding their conditions, their goals and their options for treatment to improve their quality of life. She also is committed to training the next generation of physicians and surgeons including medical students, residents and fellows.
As an assistant professor in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Sciences at UC San Diego School of Medicine, Dr. Burnett trains medical students, residents and fellows in the critical aspects of providing care for women with pelvic floor disorders in the clinic and operating room settings.
She is the principal investigator for her career development award from the National Institutes of Health and is part of the prestigious Reproductive Scientist Development Program. Her research focuses on understanding why and how pelvic floor disorders occur at a molecular level to ultimately develop novel treatment and preventative strategies with a focus on the role of metabolism in these disorders.
Dr. Burnett is fellowship trained in female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery. She completed both her residency and fellowship training at UC San Diego School of Medicine after earning her medical degree from University of Illinois College of Medicine. She also completed her PhD in molecular and cellular biology at Arizona State University and a postdoctoral fellowship in physiology and biophysics at University of Washington.
In her free time, Dr. Burnett enjoys cooking, sailing, and spending time with her husband and two young children.
She is conversant in Spanish.
