About Scott A. Harvey, MD, MS, FACOG

Scott Harvey, MD, is an obstetrician/gynecologist who subspecializes in surgical critical care, holding dual roles in the obstetric hospitalist division and surgical intensive care unit. He is one of the few obstetric intensivists in the country and specializes in inpatient medical care that includes labor and delivery, postpartum care, managing complex medical maternal conditions in pregnancy, intensive care services for adults recovering from complex surgical conditions, sepsis, hemorrhage and mechanical ventilation. He also provides outpatient clinical services to include prenatal care, comprehensive gynecologic care, well-woman visits, family planning, and treatment for conditions such as abnormal pap smears, fibroids, ovarian cysts, abnormal uterine bleeding and gynecologic infections.

Dr. Harvey is passionate about providing outstanding, patient-centered care to his patients and using a collaborative team-based approach. His background in both obstetrics and critical care provides insight to treating the sickest pregnant patients, providing systematic protocols to improve quality and safety, and supporting the community by leading clinical programs that improve health care to all women.

As an associate professor in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Sciences, Dr. Harvey trains medical students, residents and fellows at UC San Diego School of Medicine. He is dedicated to mentoring and teaching the next generation of physicians, nurses, allied health professionals and students to promote a diverse and bright future in health care.

Dr. Harvey serves as chair of Fundamentals of Critical Care Support: Obstetrics, promoting education and training in obstetric critical care worldwide. He is also involved in other national societies including the Society of Critical Care Medicine.

Prior to joining UC San Diego Health, Dr. Harvey was an assistant professor at University Health Partners of Hawai'i and the John A. Burns School of Medicine.

He completed fellowship training in surgical critical care, residency training in obstetrics and gynecology and women's health, and earned his medical degree from University of Hawai'i. He also obtained a master's degree in human physiology from University of Hawai'i. Dr. Harvey is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology, and surgical critical care.

When not at work, Dr. Harvey enjoys time with his family, surfing, skiing and biking.
