About John Clark, MD, PhD
John Clark, MD, is a board-certified internal medicine physician and clinical informaticist. He provides primary care for adults, including preventive care and diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic diseases, as well as specialty care in nonsurgical weight management and the medical care of patients following bariatric surgery.
Dr. Clark enjoys working with patients to identify their own health goals and partnering with them to create realistic plans to achieve those goals. He also has special interests in population health/public health, quality improvement and medical education.
Prior to joining UC San Diego Health, Dr. Clark practiced internal medicine/primary care as well as weight management at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. He also served as the chief quality officer for Southwestern Health Resources Accountable Care Organization.
He completed residency training in internal medicine at Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles Medical Center. Dr. Clark earned his medical degree from University of Miami, where he also obtained a doctoral degree in epidemiology and public health. He is board certified in internal medicine and clinical informatics.
Dr. Clark is a diplomate of the American Board of Obesity Medicine. He is also a member of The Obesity Society, American College of Preventive Medicine and American Medical Informatics Association.
Outside of work, Dr. Clark enjoys traveling and spending time with his family and dog. He speaks Spanish fluently.
