About Lawrence Malak, MD
Lawrence Malak, MD, is a board-certified psychiatrist who practices inpatient and outpatient care at UC San Diego Health. He approaches patient care from a shared decision-making perspective. He believes that patients and their families should be part of discussions and decisions on how to approach psychiatric treatment. Medications are just one part of treatment and Dr. Malak believes in working together to explore other ways to improve mental health and wellbeing.
In addition to his work at UC San Diego Health, he works with underserved populations around San Diego in primary care clinics, county outpatient clinics and psychiatry urgent care.
As an associate professor of psychiatry at UC San Diego School of Medicine, he is involved in the training and education of medical students and residents. He is director of the community psychiatry track, co-director of the combined family medicine and psychiatry residency program, and associate program director of the general psychiatry residency in the Department of Psychiatry.
Dr. Malak completed his residency in psychiatry at UC San Diego School of Medicine. He earned his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. He is board certified in psychiatry.
He is a member of several professional societies including the American Psychiatric Association, American Medical Association, American Association of Community Psychiatry and the American Association of Directors of Psychiatry Residency Training.
