Kristy Schwartz, MD, MPH, is a board-certified emergency medicine and pediatric emergency medicine physician. She cares for people at the emergency departments at UC San Diego Health Hillcrest and La Jolla, as well as the emergency department at Rady Children's Hospital in San Diego. Her clinical work involves treating those with life-threatening and emergent conditions, including resuscitation, stabilization, performing necessary procedures, and referring patients to appropriate specialty care.
She is an assistant professor at UC San Diego School of Medicine. As assistant program director of the Department of Emergency Medicine, Dr. Schwartz is responsible for various educational and regulatory operations for the residency, which trains some of San Diego's best emergency physicians. She also facilitates the wellness committee's resident efforts as faculty advisor. She regularly engages in academic and research efforts with fellows, residents, and UC San Diego School of Medicine students.
Dr. Schwartz's research interests include healthcare disparities in pediatric emergency care, the patient experience, and curricular innovations in medical education. Dr. Schwartz's work in these areas has been recognized at the regional and national level.
Dr. Schwartz completed fellowship training in pediatric emergency medicine at UC San Diego/Rady Children's Hospital and residency training in emergency medicine at Maricopa Medical Center in Phoenix. She is a graduate of Pennsylvania State College of Medicine. She also earned her master's degree in public health from Columbia University. She is a fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians.
Outside of work, Dr. Schwartz enjoys stand up paddle boarding, hiking, and spending time with her husband, who is also an emergency physician, and their 130 pound dog.
