Alex Lanious, PhD, is a licensed clinical psychologist who specializes in treating adults with anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and relationship issues. As a practitioner with Integrated Behavioral Health at UC San Diego Health, she collaborates with primary care physicians to deliver integrated, whole-person care.
Through a process of empathy and understanding, she strives to help her patients make positive changes in their lives. Dr. Lanious provides a warm and safe therapeutic environment, partnering with patients to create a treatment plan that will help them achieve their individual goals and create lasting positive change. Her work with patients is based on understanding that changing feelings of depression, anxiety, fear, loss, resentment, or relationship difficulties require support and nurturing.
Prior to joining UC San Diego Health, Dr. Lanious' experience included work with suicide prevention crisis lines, short-term crisis care, community-based mental health clinics, and inpatient trauma treatment for active duty military and first responders. She has worked with American Indian and Alaskan Native populations in Alaska. In California, she has worked with Caucasian, Hispanic/Latino, East Indian, African American, Middle Eastern, and Asian populations.
She earned her master's and doctoral degrees from California School of Professional Psychology at Alliant International University, San Diego.
In her free time, she enjoys reading and spending time outdoors in San Diego at the beach or hiking.
