About Megha Shankar, MD

Megha Shankar, MD, is a board-certified internal medicine physician who practices the full scope general internal medicine, providing primary care for adults. Dr. Shankar's approach to care is founded on patient-centered care and shared decision making. She loves developing meaningful relationships with patients and finds that such a rewarding part of medicine.

She has specialized training in women's health, social justice and health equity, medical education, and health services research.

As an assistant professor in the Department of Medicine, she trains medical students, residents and fellows at UC San Diego School of Medicine.

Dr. Shankar completed fellowship in health services research at Stanford University and VA Palo Alto Health Care System. She did residency in internal medicine at the University of Washington and earned her medical degree at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Chicago. Dr. Shankar has undergraduate degrees in anthropology and biology from the University of Chicago.

She is a member of Alpha Omega Alpha, the Society of General Internal Medicine and the American College of Physicians.

Outside of work, Dr. Shankar loves spending time with family and friends, enjoying the great outdoors, dancing, music and philosophy.
