About Shea Wickland, MD
Shea Wickland, MD, is a board-certified family medicine doctor providing the full breadth of primary care for patients of all ages, including children, adolescents, adults and seniors.
Dr. Wickland's practice emphasizes preventive care, as well as the diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic conditions, including mental health. She has a particular interest in women's health and sports medicine. Dr. Wickland is also skilled in minor skin procedures, joint injections, soft-tissue injections, Botox injections for chronic migraine, and contraception services, including IUDs (intrauterine devices) and Nexplanon.
She enjoys caring for patients and their family members from childhood through adulthood. Dr. Wickland values a shared decision-making approach, focused on treating the patient as a whole person and not just a single disease or condition.
Before joining UC San Diego Health, Dr. Wickland served in the U.S. Navy for seven years, caring for a diverse set of patients with limited healthcare resources. This included providing care in Guam and training medical students, interns and residents at Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton in Oceanside. She won several awards for her work, including the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
Dr. Wickland completed her family medicine residency training at Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton, where she was chief resident. She earned her medical degree at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Mich. She is board certified in family medicine.
She is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, the Uniformed Services Academy of Family Physicians and the American Medical Women's Association.
In her free time, Dr. Wickland enjoys drawing, painting, spending time with family and all things outdoors, including hiking, running and biking.
