About Hannah Wishnek, LCSW
Hannah Wishnek, LCSW, is a licensed clinical social worker providing individual and group therapy to older adults in the Senior Behavioral Health Program at UC San Diego Health. Hannah works with those experiencing depression, anxiety, life transitions and family/relationship tensions. She specializes in working with those facing chronic physical and cognitive illnesses, as well as their caregivers. She has a special interest in working with LGBTQ+ older adults.
Hannah incorporates facets of acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), evaluating one's deepest yearnings and beliefs and exploring ways to align their actions with their values. She utilizes cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to help clients examine the relationship between their thoughts and their emotions, and incorporates mindfulness skills as a way to reduce anxiety and learn to hone greater personal awareness.
Her experience working in the inpatient, outpatient, community, research, and non-profit sectors allows her to not only provide well-informed supportive therapy but also provide referrals and information about services and supports available in the community. In addition to providing therapy she offers case management services to patients, connecting them to supportive resources and addressing barriers to accessing those services.
Hannah is a firm believer in the inherent goodness and worth of every individual. She sees each person's struggles as unique but also as part of a web of social, societal and historical patterns that can either hinder or support one's path to healing. She provides a calm and non-judgmental demeanor and believes that warmth, a good listening ear and humor are essential parts of the therapeutic process.
Hannah obtained her master's degree in social work from the University of Washington in Seattle with a clinical focus on multigenerational practice with elders. She is licensed in both California and Washington, and holds a geriatric mental health specialist designation in Washington.
Outside of work, Hannah enjoys cooking for friends and family, playing on a recreational kickball league, and surfing. As a San Diego native, she is always on the hunt for the best beach spots and taco shops.
