About Jonathan Lyons, MD

Jonathan Lyons, MD, is a board-certified allergist and immunologist who sees patients (and their families) with severe allergic inflammation or reactions caused by inherited or acquired pathogenic genetic variants. This means they have a change in their DNA that puts them at risk of developing a certain genetic disorder or disease, such as cancer. Examples include non-advanced systemic mastocytosis, idiopathic anaphylaxis, swelling, urticaria or angioedema.

He also treats primary atopic disorders (PADs), which are inborn errors of immunity (IEI) associated with allergy.

Dr. Lyons enjoys being able to identify the underlying genetic changes that result in severe allergic inflammation or reactions in patients. He uses this knowledge to develop or adapt treatments to specifically target these conditions.

He completed a fellowship at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), which is part of the National Institutes of Health, before joining the faculty there in the Laboratory of Allergic Diseases, where he was a clinical investigator and Lasker Scholar. He did his residency in internal medicine at UC San Diego School of Medicine, where he was also chief resident. Dr. Lyons earned his medical degree at the Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California. He is board certified in internal medicine as well as allergy and immunology.

Dr. Lyons is a member of the Clinical Immunology Society, American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology, and Collegium Internationale Allergologicum.
