Matthew Kuivenhoven, DO, is a board-certified family medicine physician at UC San Diego Health's Express Care. He provides high-quality care to patients of all ages for acute illnesses ranging from musculoskeletal injuries, minor trauma, viral and bacterial infections. He also performs procedures including suturing, incision and drainage, splinting, intra-articular joint injections, nasal packing/cautery and interpretation of electrocardiograms (EKGs) and x-rays.
Dr. Kuivenhoven feels it's important to listen to his patients and his goal is to identify the root of problems in order to successfully treat symptoms.
Prior to joining UC San Diego Health, he practiced both family medicine and urgent care medicine in Michigan and was an associate professor at Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine.
Dr. Kuivenhoven completed a residency in family medicine at McLaren Oakland Hospital in Pontiac, Mich. He earned his medical degree from Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine. He is board certified in family medicine.
Outside of work, he and his wife enjoy fostering cats and exploring the outdoors. He also enjoys working out, hiking, playing soccer and trying new restaurants.
