Omar Mesina, MD, is an obstetrician/gynecologist who provides preconception, prenatal, and postpartum care, as well as labor and delivery management. He also provides comprehensive gynecological care including family planning and contraception, abnormal Pap smears, sexual health and dysfunction, fibroids, endometriosis, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), abnormal uterine bleeding, ovarian cysts, pelvic pain, menopause and vulvar conditions.
Dr. Mesina has a personal and academic interest in promoting health care access among underrepresented and historically marginalized patients, with a special interest in LGBTQ+ health, gender affirming care, minimally invasive surgery and medical education.
Dr. Mesina strongly believes in patient-centered care rooted in shared decision making. His philosophy is in providing all patients with evidenced-based guidelines but always working to ensure that all recommendations are personalized.
As an assistant professor in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences, he teaches medical students and residents at UC San Diego School of Medicine. Dr. Mesina is a member of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Dr. Mesina completed his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at UC San Diego School of Medicine, where he also served as an administrative chief resident. He earned his medical degree from UC San Francisco School of Medicine and his undergraduate degree from Harvard University.
Outside of work, Dr. Mesina enjoys group fitness classes, long-distance running, going to concerts, traveling, and spending time with his mischievous cat. Dr. Mesina is a native Spanish speaker.
