About Carol Yu, OD
Carol Yu, OD, is an optometrist with a focus in specialty contact lenses, myopia (nearsightedness) control and ocular disease. She has experience working with a variety of contact lenses (including scleral lenses) and specializes in fitting them for aphakia (eye lens absence), keratoconus (cone-shaped corneas), post-surgical corneas, severe dry eyes and myopia control.
Dr. Yu helped establish the UC San Diego Myopia Control Clinic, which provides state-of-the-art treatment to slow the progression of nearsightedness in children. She is a member of the Acute Eye Care Clinic, where she triages and cares for patients with emergency eye-related issues, such as flashes and floaters, sudden loss of vision and eye pain.
She completed her residency in primary care with an emphasis in cornea and contact lenses at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. During her residency, she received advanced training in fitting specialty contact lenses, managing dry eye and ocular diseases. Dr. Yu earned both her medical degree in optometry and her bachelor's degree in integrative biology from UC Berkeley. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and the Scleral Lens Society.
She speaks Chinese and Spanish fluently.
