She was a chief resident of UC San Diego's pediatric residency program and maintains her connection to the university and Rady's Children's Hospital by mentoring pediatricians in training and students. She is also the co-chair of the education committee.

Dr. Coullahan completed her residency at UC San Diego School of Medicine and earned her medical degree at University of Arizona College of Medicine. She is board certified in pediatrics and a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics (FAAP).
