About Sasan Moghimi, MD
Sasan Moghimi, MD, is an ophthalmologist who specializes in treating glaucoma, including angle-closure glaucoma, intraocular pressure and uvea.
He has a special interest in using imaging to detect glaucoma earlier and monitor disease progression more closely, so that doctors can intervene successfully before vision is lost.
As an associate professor at UC San Diego School of Medicine, he conducts original research on a variety of topics related to glaucoma, including the role of imaging in detecting and monitoring glaucoma, lamina cribrosa and choroidal changes in glaucoma, and the role of blood flow in the development and progression of glaucoma.
He has authored or co-authored over 120 peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters related to glaucoma and vision science and is an editorial board member of International Glaucoma Review.
Prior to joining UC San Diego Health, he was a professor and vice chair at Farabi Eye Hospital at Tehran University of Medical Sciences.
Dr. Moghimi completed fellowships in glaucoma at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA and UCSF School of Medicine. He completed residency training in ophthalmology and earned his medical degree from Tehran University of Medical Sciences.
