Rachel U. Lee, MD, MBA, is a board-certified allergist, immunologist, and internal medicine physician who specializes in immune system disorders such as environmental, drug, and food allergies, asthma, urticaria (hives) and immune deficiencies.
Dr. Lee brings many experiences to UC San Diego Health after serving in the U.S. Navy as a medical officer for over 20 years. As a Navy allergist and internist, she practiced medicine in many parts of the world and deployed as a "combat allergist." During her military career, she was selected to be the Navy surgeon general's allergy specialty leader and served as service chief, medical director and division director in a variety of clinical settings. In those capacities, she has supervised and mentored a diverse team of medical professionals. She has been awarded multiple research grants and has conducted and supervised multiple research projects that have advanced medical knowledge and innovation in the field. In addition to research, she has developed and implemented clinical protocols, guidelines, and best practices for the diagnosis and management of allergic and immunologic conditions. She is passionate about improving the quality and accessibility of health care for all and has many clinical and research interests.
As a professor in the Department of Medicine at UC San Diego School of Medicine, Dr. Lee works with medical students, residents and fellows.
Dr. Lee completed her allergy and immunology fellowship at the Scripps Clinic and Green Hospital and internal medicine residency at the Naval Medical Center San Diego. She earned her medical degree from New York Medical College and an Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA) from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California. She is board certified in allergy and immunology and internal medicine.
She is also a clinical professor of medicine at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, MD. She is a fellow of the American College of Physicians and the American Academy of Allergy Asthma and Immunology. Her research has been published in many peer-reviewed publications.
