Joshua Higgins, PA, is a certified physician assistant who helps provide comprehensive care for people of all ages at UC San Diego Health. He is responsible for preventive care and treatment of acute and chronic diseases and injuries.
Before joining UC San Diego Health, Mr. Higgins' entire work career was exclusively in emergency medicine, with treatments ranging from orthopedic injuries and complex lacerations to abdominal pain and cardiac conditions. In his practice, he believes it is important that every patient is heard and every complaint is addressed. Mr. Higgins feels, often times, a detailed conversation and thorough explanation can be a far more effective form of providing quality care and can sometimes avoid unnecessary workups.
Mr. Higgins earned his master's degree in physician assistant studies from University of Nebraska, Omaha and his bachelor's degree in emergency medical care from Loma Linda University in Loma Linda, Calif. He is certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants and a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants, California Association of Physician Assistants and Society of Emergency Medicine Physician Assistants.
In his free time, Mr. Higgins enjoys cycling, hiking, camping and traveling to national parks with his wife and two daughters.
